My top five meals to cook at home:
pasta with red sauce
risotto
banana bread
polenta cookies
roast chicken
Her: those are meals, they are just dishes. And way to many baked goods.
Me: whatever, that’s my list.
It was a list, but my list changes all the times and I can’t keep up with it, but those are in good rotation. Now if I was to host a part, say, or have people over, then the list would be entirely different.
We were sitting in a not so terrible sushi joint, it was balmy outside, but not warm. Inside, it was a little warm because it was full. I ordered a bottle of dry sake.
She liked me to make top five lists of things — she was always asking. Top five kisses, friends, pets (I’ve only had two, a fish and a dog, both are dead), cars, trips, hotels, christmas gifts, birthday parties - the list of lists is endless.
Me: I feel like I’m writing click bait when I make these.
The sushi arrived, it was perfectly good, but not the best.
Her: top five sushi restaurants.
I didn’t have five I could name…
Me: I don’t have five I can name.
Her: I like Itsu just fine.
Me: It’s ok in a pinch.
Sake never hits us like real alcohol so we order a second bottle and some sashimi. She gets up to go to the bathroom and throws her napkin over the back of her chair. When she walks back, I am reminded of why I like her.
